Participation in pooled analyses

  • The cohort is potentially interested in participating in pooled analyses of (European) occupational cohort studies (note pooled analyses also includes remote decentralized analyses that would not require any transfer of primary data as well as meta-analyses).

Main aim of cohort, please briefly describe the main objectives of the cohort
  a) assessment of mortality by causes; b) analysis of mortality trends for some asbestos-related causes with respect to duration of exposure, period of employment, latency and task

Comments
This study is investigating cause-specific mortality in the period 1960-2019 in the cohort of the workers of the OGR of Bologna, which represented the most important context in Italy for the number of rolling stock undergoing maintenance and repair, with a significant exposure to asbestos, for duration, i.e. over 20 years, and for the number of exposed subjects.
The strengths of the study are represented by the almost complete reconstruction of the workers' cohort and by the significant duration of the follow-up, over 50 years, which allowed a sufficient latency that brought out, in particular, the malignant mesotheliomas.
2. OUTCOME FOLLOW-UP
Type of data for outcome follow-up (please select as many as appropriate)

  • Death certificate

Death certificate (specify)

  • The verification of the alive status for the subjects no longer at work was made through a request to the General Register Office of the Municipality of the last known residence or, in its absence, of the place of birth. The request of the causes of death was addressed to AUSL offices that have managed the Register of Causes of Death (RENCAM) since 1986 onwards, also dealing with their coding according to the 9th or the 10th International Classification of Diseases (ICD) revision. For those who died before that year the request was addressed to the Municipalities, for the retrieval of information on the causes of death from the burial permits drawn up by the medical examiner. We considered the priimary cause of death.

First follow-up period (provide year)
  2015
Last follow-up period (provide year)
